Discover the whole grain goodness of amaranth, a staple food of the ancient Aztecs. Amaranth is a gluten-free food and a source of complete protein—it contains all the essential amino acids, including lysine, which is lacking in most grains.

This tiny "grain"—actually a seed—has a rich history dating back 8,000 years, when it was first cultivated in Mesoamerica. The ancient Aztecs relied on amaranth as a food staple and used it in religious rituals, earning it the names "super grain of the Aztecs" and "golden grain of the gods." Use amaranth in porridge, polenta and quick breads. It's a good source of protein, magnesium, iron and dietary fiber.

Bob's Red Mill products labeled Gluten Free are batch tested in our quality control laboratory. We use an ELISA Gluten Assay test to confirm that a product is gluten free.

Suggested Use

Keeps best refrigerated or frozen.

Basic Cooking Instructions

Bring 3 cups water to a boil in a pot. Add 1 cup amaranth. Cover, reduce heat and simmer until water is absorbed, about 20 minutes. Makes 4 servings (about 2 cups).

Other Ingredients

Organic whole grain amaranth

Manufactured in a facility that uses tree nuts and soy.

iHerb Customer Reviews
Great organic whole grain amaranth.
Very delicious and nutritious. Rich in dietary fiber, protein, B vitamins (folic acid, vitamin B6, riboflavin, niacin, thiamin), vitamin E, manganese, magnesium, phosphorus, iron, selenium, copper, zinc, calcium, potas sium, phytosterols and antioxidants, amaranth is known as the "supergrain of the Aztecs" and beneficial for people suffering from diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, obesity, cardiovascular conditions, heart disease, gastritis, acid reflux, nausea, indigestion, osteoporosis, arthritis, rheumatism, acne, eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, as well as many other skin conditions, and even cancer: it helps stabilize blood sugar and regulate insulin levels, prevents blood spikes keeping you full longer, flushes toxins out of the body, aids digestion, prevents heartburn and acid reflux, increases appetite, soothes the stomach lining, reduces colon inflammation, normalizes blood pressure, lowers triglycerides and LDL or "bad" cholesterol levels while increasing HDL or "good" cholesterol, protects against strokes, atherosclerosis and peripheral arterial disease, boosts and strengthens the immune system, neutralizes free radicals, improves brain function, helps maintain healthy bones, teeth, joints, skin, nails, and hair, and even reduces the risk of cancer, not to mention that it's great in different recipes. I love this organic whole grain amaranth: not only is it delicious, but also it helps normalize my cholesterol levels and blood pressure and relieves the symptoms of my acid reflux and gastritis. It's a great product and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to have a healthier diet.

---Bob's Red Mill Amaranth was delivered as advertised. It is a good product used as additive to soups, stews, and cereals. As Doctor Oz presented, it should help lower Cholesterol in a person if eaten regularly.

I eat Amaranth every day as a hot cereal since I am on iron pills prescribed by doctor. The best is sold by Bob's Red Mill.
