The length of time for the expiration date or "best used before" date depends on the type of product, as well as the brand.
Perishable items (such as flax oils or certain probiotics) generally have shorter expiration dates. Although our warehouse is fully air-conditioned, these more fragile items are put in cold storage (freezer or refrigeration unit) for maximum freshness.
Our receiving department does its best to verify and then enter the correct expiration dates for all incoming products. However, discrepancies do occur from time to time. This being said, the exceptionally high turnover at iHerb ensures that our inventory is among the freshest in the industry.

These cute little legumes have a pleasant, earthy flavor. They're very easy to prepare, needing no presoaking and cooking in just 30 minutes. They're not only tasty and simple to cook, but also a good source of protein, iron and dietary fiber.
Diets rich in whole grain foods and other plant foods low in total fat, saturated fat and cholesterol, may reduce the risk of heart disease and some cancers.
Beans, peas, and lentils are natural agricultural products. Despite use of modern agricultural equipment, it is not always possible to remove all foreign material. Sort and rinse before cooking.
Basic Cooking Instructions
To cook lentils, simply pick over to remove debris, rinse and drain. Cover 1 cup Lentils with 3 cups water or broth and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 25-30 minutes or until tender. Serves four.

I purchased these lentils to be used in indian dishes and for lentil soup. The lentils were fresh and tasted quite good when cooked in soup or with rice and spices. I trust that Bob's Red Mill is a quality brand. If I'm looking for red lentils, I will certainly buy this product again.
I'm a fledgling vegan, and am exploring the wonders of super-nutritious lentils; I have a number of recipes that use the fast-cooking red lentils. They're not always easy to find, but iHerb makes it easy to buy these at a fair price. Bob's Red Mill is a great brand that I will explore more.
